Pay Inequality

As a leader in a leadership Ed.D. program, I would like to see there be changes and progress toward pay inequality. White women make 78 cents to every dollar a male makes. This leaves women of color in an even larger deficit of pay. In the past years social media has brought this issue to the forefront highlighting the pay differences between NBA stars and WNBA stars with similar credentials. Also, the pay discrepancies between male collegiate football and basketball coach in comparison to other female coaches on campuses. Even with social media, there has been little change in the efforts to even the pay scale playing field. Inequalities also reach deeper than the paycheck and extend into contract lengths, lack of health care benefits, and underrepresentation in many fields.
I find that in the year 2021 with the many barriers we have broken over the years it is extremely plausible for there to be laws or policies put in place to close the gender equality gap. In order for us to make progress in these efforts, I do think it will require influential members of the communities, workplaces, and leaders such as myself to continue to push the envelope forward by bringing awareness to the issue. With the year we have had I do feel this issue will fall to the wayside as others will find that there are more pertinent battles to fight, but it is our duty to continue to make this topic a relevant topic. Additionally, as an educator working with young adults, I encourage young women to view themselves through the same lens as their male counterparts in the workplace.
